Looking after you

Mind and body connection

The mind and body are inseparable, and mental and physical health conditions can be connected.

Example:

A stressful event can trigger the fight-or-flight response this built in response evolved from when we were hunter-gatherers. Research has shown us that the same brain networks that are activated when we’re in real physical danger are also involved when we think that something is a threat when we become worried, anxious or agitated. In summary our brains cannot tell the difference between what is an actual threat to a perceived or imagined one.

Under stress, the body releases adrenalin and cortisol, which speeds up the heart rate, blood pressure rises putting the body under stress, which has serious consequences for long-term health.  Chronic stress can affect every part of the body.
